Over the past few months I have been working with residents and the police to crack down on crime in Stockland Green and in the Slade Road area in particular. The police have been coming down hard on street drinking and drugs in the area. However, if we are to make a difference I really need YOUR help to deal with one of the underlying causes of crime and antisocial behaviour in the area.
I have opposed every new off license application put forward in the last few years. Usually I have been sucssessful, but sometimes I have not, because the law is weighted in favour of the off licenses. I have usualy had the support of the Police, becuase they know that we have too many in Stockland Green, particularly in the Slade Road area. The more off licenses have opened the more crime and antisocial behaviour we have seen in Stockand Green. That is why I want the police to work with me and the Council to agree a Cumulative Impact Statement, which will make it difficult for new off licenses to be approved here. If such a statement were prepared by the Police and agreed by the Licensing Committee it would change the presumption to one against allowing any new off licenses.
I want to demonstrate how badly this change is needed, so if you would like to add your name to the petition calling for it, please email or text me your details.
