Despite the wintery conditions popular local Councillors Robert Alden, Gareth Moore and Bob Beauchamp (all Erdington Ward, Conservative) were out in Erdington High Street collecting signatures for their petition to save Erdington Walk in Centre. Cllr Robert Alden, who has been instrumental in leading the fight to save Erdington Walk in Centre, said "we collected more than 100 additional signatures on the High Street despite the cold weather. Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition either through our leaflet, High Street Stalls or thanks to the kind coverage in the local paper. We are now well on our way to getting a 1000 signatures. This kind of huge support from the local communities shows just how vital and popular the Erdington Walk in Centre is to the local community".
Cllr Bob Beauchamp added "the massive support that the local community are giving to the campaign is meaning that we are able to put together a really strong message to the Birmingham and Solihull NHS, who are running the review of local walk in centres, as to why Erdington's should stay open. The next step from here is to start taking our campaign to the people who will be making the decisions. We need to ensure that the actually people running the review know about the campaign and why the centre is important. To save the centre we need everyone working together pushing the case to the decision makers not wasting time on crass political point scoring".
You can still add your name to the petition by following going to http://www.erdingtonconservatives.org.uk/contact and filling in the form, adding Walk in Centre petition in the Message box.
